The Thoothukudi Medical College, is located in the Pearl city - Muthunagar - Port city of Thoothukudi established in the Year 2000. The Medical college is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC). It has an annual intake of 150 seats in MBBS, 45 seats in 7 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 3 seats in 2 disciplines of super- Specialization studies. 

The college is spread over an area of 25 acres, with a beautiful infrastructure with 4 Lecture halls with a seating capacity of 180 and one Lecture halls with a seating capacity of 400.  All the lecture hall have state of the art facility fitted with the most modern teaching devices like computer interactive touch panels, LCDs , High Resolutions Projectors and Document Camera's.  There are Examination rooms, Demonstration rooms, Seminar halls. There are Departmental museums and well-equipped Laboratories. There is a huge Auditorium located deep inside the campus. There are good Canteens and Recreation halls in the campus. There are separate hostel facilities for Boys and Girls and Indoor and Outdoor Games and Sports facilities. The college has a spacious library facility with a floor area of 2400 sq.ft with an excellent collection of Medical books of over 13,000+ and 25 International and 40 National Journals, back volumes, Atlases, Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopaedias, Technical Reports. There are separate Reading rooms and the E- library has good Internet facility. The college has pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.

The Attached Hospital

Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital is fully equipped with 1112 beds. All the services are provided free of cost to people below poverty. An average of 2800 Out-patients and 590 In-patients are treated here daily. Moreover, an average of 465 deliveries, 630 major surgeries, 460 minor surgeries, and 160 family welfare sterilizations are carried out here per month. A special ward has now been set up for the patients affected by Dengue fever and qualified Medical Officers have also been entrusted with the treatment of dengue fever.  A special ward with an air-conditioning facility has been located in the new building for various treatments under Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). It is a tertiary care hospital with 24X7 emergency and trauma care facility, Eye bank and blood bank facilities are available. There are very good clinical and diagnostic facilities in the Hospital. The Hospital has facilities for burn treatment, Critical care services, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. The Hospital's general specialities include General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry & Forensic Medicine.     *Out of 50% of the seats in State Government quota, 50% of the seats will be exclusively allocated to in-service candidates serving in Government health institutions in the State of Tamil Nadu and remaining 50% of seats will be allocated to Open category which will be open to both service and non-service candidates. The seats in above categories will be filled up based on the marks already defined or such criteria to be defined by the Government from time to time as per the decision of the Committee headed by Hon’bleThiru. A.Selvam, High Court Judge (Retd.) constituted based on the orders of the Hon’ble Division Bench of High Court of Madras, in W.A.Nos. 1051,1117 to 1124 if 2018 in W.P Nos. 7231,7857 to  7861,8116 and 8117 of 2018.
    50% of the seats in Post Graduate Diploma Courses shall be reserved for Medical Officers in the Government service, who has served for at least three years in remote, and/or difficult or rural areas of Tamil Nadu. After acquiring the PG Diploma, the Medical Officers shall serve for two more years in remote, rural and /or difficult areas as defined by the State Government / Competent authority from time to time

    FOR ADMISSION TO POST GRADUATE DEGREE/DIPLOMA COURSES IN TAMILNADU GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGES 

    At the time of REGISTRATION, all candidates must pay the following fee:-

    Non Refundable processing fee of Rs.1000/- ( Rupees One Thousand only )

    SECURITY DEPOSIT:-

    1. For Government Medical Colleges - Rs.30,000/-

    Security Deposit which will be refunded to the candidates:-

    1. after joining the allotted college
    2. if the candidate did not get any seat during counseling.

    Security Deposit may not be refunded :-

    If the candidates discontinue / Not joined the course after completion of round 2  of ONLINE CONSELLING, they will have to forfeit the processing fee, security Deposit& tuition fee paid by them.

    METHOD OF FEE PAYMENT:

    Method of payment of Rs.3000/- (Non-refundable) through DebitCard, Credit Card/ NetBanking:

    • Necessary facilities have been providedfor making paymentthrough nationalized banks via bank payment portal.
    • Candidates must note that mere deduction of fee from the Bankaccount is not a proof of fee payment.
    • Check the validity of the Debit/Credit Card/ Net bankingand keep it ready with you while logging on to the website for submitting application form. Candidate should enter the information asked for and make payment through Debit/ Credit Card.  (or) The candidates can make payment of Rs.3000/- (Non- refundable) towardsthe cost of application fee through the Demand Draft in favour of the Secretary, Selection Committee, Directorate of MedicalEducation, Chennai -10.
    * Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyar) / Scheduled Tribe candidates of Tamil Nadu native are exempted from payment of the cost of the application.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

    Candidates should be Citizens of India and should have undergone MBBS course including the entire Compulsory Residential Rotatory Internship (CRRI) period in the State of Tamil Nadu.

    The candidates who are claiming Nativity of Tamil Nadu should furnish their Certificates of Nativity of Tamil Nadu issued by the competent authority and supported by the following documents: Valid copy of Aadhar Card, Driving Licence, Voter’s ID, Passport and Proof of Parent’s Documents is Mandatory (Aadhar Card and School Certificates)

    *If copy of the supporting documents is not produced, then the application will be summarily rejected.

    Candidates seeking admission in Post Graduate Degree / Diploma Courses, they have to qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-NEET PG 2022 conducted by the National Board of Examination.

    NON ELIGIBILITY:-

    1. Candidates who join a Post Graduate Degree / Diploma course in any Branch and discontinue the course on any grounds on or after the second round as per guidelines of Medical Councilof India, are not eligibleto apply for two subsequent academic years for any Post Graduate Degree / Diploma Courses. Further the candidate shall be considered as discontinued and should pay the Discontinuation Fee asper Clause 24(c) ofthis Prospectus.
    2. The candidates who take allotments for PG Degree / Diploma courses in any branch in the second round of counselling must join the courses, if not, they are not eligible to apply for two subsequent academic years for any Post Graduate Degree / Diploma Courses. The candidate shall be considered as discontinued and should pay the discontinuation fee as per clause 24(c) of this prospectus.
    Candidates who are undergoing a Postgraduate Degree / Diploma courses are not eligible to apply for any Post Graduate Degree /Diploma Courses.
    1. Candidates who have already completed a Post graduate Degree/ DNB/Equivalent Courses are not eligible to apply for admission to any other Post Graduate Degree/ Diploma Courses.
    2. A candidate who is already a Diploma holder is not eligible to apply for another diploma course, but can apply for any Post Graduate Degree Course.
    3. Candidates belong to other states (other than Tamil Nadu) are not eligible for Government seats in Government Medical College and Government Quota seats in Self-Financing Medical Colleges

    PROCEDURE FOR FILLING & SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION:

    • The candidate should log on in any one of the following websites : www.tnhealth.tn.gov.in / www.tnmedicalselection.org
    • The application forms will be available between 12:00 Noon on 19.08.2022 and upto 05.00 P.M on 26.08.2022.
    • Candidates should submit their filled-in online application form by uploading the details in the required fields
    • Request for change in any particulars in the online Application shall not be entertained under any circumstances after submission.
    • Incomplete applications will be rejected.
    • Candidates should submit the print out of the filled-in online application form(Hard Copy) along with necessary enclosures.
    • Service Candidates should submit the print out of the filled-in online application forms along with their Service particulars (Duly certified by the Forwarding Authority with date and seal) and necessary enclosures
    • The filled-in online application form along with the necessary enclosures should reach the following address onor before 29.08.2022 upto 05.00 P.M: THE SECRETARY, SELECTION COMMITTEE, 162, PERIYAR E.V.R. HIGH ROAD, KILPAUK, CHENNAI – 600 010.
    • Candidates should send their filled-in online application form along with all the enclosures in an A4 size cloth lined cover. The template with the requisite details should be printed and pasted on the cover.
    • AR Number (Application Registration Number) will be assigned by the Selection Committee on receipt of the filled-in online applications.

             Candidates must enclose only Self attested Photocopies of required Certificates/documents:

    • NEET PG 2022-Score Card.
    • NEET PG 2022 Admit Card.
    • MBBS Degree Certificate and Diploma Certificate or Provisional Pass Certificate.
    • CRRI Completion Certificate
    • Permanent Medical Registration Certificate issued by the National Medical Commission / State Medical Council or provisional Registration Certificate issued by the National Medical Commission  / State Medical Council
    • Community Certificate issued by the competent authority indicating the community status of candidates belonging to Backward Community/Backward Community (Muslim)/ Most Backward Community / De notified Communities/ Schedule Caste/ Schedule Caste (Arunthathiyar).Scheduled Tribe candidates should produce community certificates issued by a Revenue Divisional Officer of the competent jurisdiction.
    • TNPSC/MRB (through competitive written examination) Selection & Posting Order (For Service Candidates).
    • Nativity Certificate  with supportive documents as mentioned in clause 2(b).
    • Recent Regional Medical Board Certificate for Person with Disabilities
    • Eligibility Certificate. To be from the TN.Dr.MGR Medical University Guindy Chennai 32. (Only for the candidates who have qualified from other University).
    • Candidates are instructed to produce the above mentioned original Certificates/ Documents at the time of certificate verification
    • Same photo of that uploaded in NEET PG 2022 must be uploaded in filled-in online application.
    • Post Card size colour photograph (4”x6”) (size: 50kb to 300kb) to be uploaded.
    • Aadhar Card/Pan Card/Voter ID
    • Incomplete filled-  In online application, application submitted without the proper documents   and application forms without the signature of the candidates will be summarily rejected.

    Rule Of Reservation By The Government Of Tamil Nadu As Follows:- If the seats are 8 and more, the rule of the reservation shall be as follows:-

    1. Open Competition – 31 %
    2. Backward Class – 30 %
    3. Most Backward Class – 20 %
    4. Scheduled Caste – 18 %
    5. Scheduled Tribe – 1 %
    • Within the 30% reservation for Backward Classes, 3.5% will be provided for Muslims and 16% of seats out of the 18% quota earmarked to Scheduled Caste shall be allocated to the Arunthathiyar Community.
    • If only one seat is available in any Speciality, that seat will be allotted on a rank basis only.
    • If there are no eligible Service candidates opting for PG Diploma courses, the same will be allotted to eligible General category candidates.
    • 50% of the seats in Post Graduate Diploma Courses shall be reserved for Medical Officers in the Government service, who has served for at least three years in remote, and/or difficult or rural areas of Tamil Nadu.     RANK LIST:- 

    The Rank list will be drawn based on marks obtained in NEET PG 2022 and the additional weightage marks awarded to eligible in-service candidates who have qualified in NEET PG -2022 as per the existing norms.
    The service candidates shall be awarded an additional weightage upto 10% of the marks secured in the NEET PG-2022 per year of completion of service in remote and or /difficult or rural areas as per in G.O.(Ms).No.86, Health and family welfare (MCA1) Department, dated 06.03.2019, G.O.(Ms.).No.114 Health & Family Welfare Department (MCA-1) Department dated 29.3.2019 and G.O.(Ms.).No.423 Health & Family WelfareDepartment (MCA-1) Department dated 26.9.2019 subjectto maximum of 30% of marks secured in NEET PG-2022.
    The Secretary, Selection Committee will publish the tentative Rank List on the following official websites after completion of scrutiny of all applications received for this academic year 2022-2023

    COUNSELLING PROCEDURES :

    There are four rounds of counseling i.e., Round -1 Round -2, Mop- up and Stray vacancy round.(Stray Vacancy  round will be conducted by the respective Self Financing Colleges from the merit list being furnished by the selection committee)

    First Round of counselling 

    (a)(i) Admission to PG Degree / Diploma courses, shall be made through online counselling. The detailed online counselling procedures are available in annexure. 

    (ii) A Candidate who has not registered and not choice locked in the 1st round of ONLINE COUNSELLING will be permitted to attend the subsequent rounds of ONLINE COUNSELING. 

    (iii) A candidate who has taken a seat and Joined/not joined /discontinued the course within the stipulated time in the first round of counselling, he/she is eligible to attend the Secound round of ONLINE COUNSELLING.

     (b) Re-allotment is permitted during the subsequent rounds of online counselling, based on Rank. 

    (c) Mutual transfer/ Individual request for transfer of college will not be permitted under any circumstances. 

    The tuition fee is not refundable if the candidate does not join after collecting the provisional allotment order in second round of online counselling. 

    The candidates (Management Quota/NRI) who discontinue the course on or after the second round of counselling should pay the Discontinuation Fees as specified below, to the Deans of the respective Colleges, the sum as specified below in total by means of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai – 10”, payable at Chennai

    For P.G. Diploma Course ₹10 lakh /Degree Course ₹15 Lakh 

    Unless the aforesaid discontinuation fee as penalty amount is paid in total, the candidates will not be relieved and original certificates produced by the candidates at the time of admission will be retained by the concerned institutions. 

    Second Round of Counselling

    (i) Second round of counseling will be conducted for the vacancies arising after first round as per the rank list through online. 

    (ii) If the candidates discontinue /Not joined the course after completion of round 2 of ONLINE CONSELLING, they will have to forfeit the processing fee, security Deposit & tuition fee paid by them 

    (iii)Virtual Vacancies- Any Candidate who has been allotted a seat in Round 1 and has opted for up-gradation in Round 2, that allotted seats of Round 1 will be shown as virtual vacancy in Round 2 and Candidates can fill the said seat during the choice filling in Round 2. However, such seats will be allotted in Round 2 if the allottee of Round 1 vacates / upgrades in Round 2. When that virtual vacancy becomes real vacancy, it is open to all in the order of merit. 

    MOPUP Round counseling 

    (a) After completion of second round of online counselling if there is any vacancy that will be filled by mop-up round.

     b) If the candidate is allotted any seat from his /her locked choices in first and second rounds and has Joinedthey are not eligible for the Mop-up counseling and subsequent rounds of counseling. (as per theGazette Notification No.MCI18(1)/2018-Med./100818, Dated 05/08/2018 and the orders of the Supreme Court of India in W.P.(C) No. 174/2022, dated 31.03.2022)

    Stray vacancy round. 

    1. After completion of Mop up round of online counselling if there is any vacancy that will be filled by stray vacancy  round
    2. Stray Vacancy will be conducted by the respective Self Financing Colleges from the merit list being furnished by the selection committee.
    3. A schedule for stray vacancy has to be up loaded on college website for information /knowledge and benefit of the candidate.
