The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubballi is a Government Medical College established in the Year 1957, It was earlier known as the KARNATAKA MEDICAL COLLEGE, HUBBALLI. The College is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences - RGUHS, Karnataka and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC) with an annual intake of 200 MBBS seats, 165 seats in 19 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 2 seats in 1 Super-Specialization studies. Since its inception, the Institution has carried a brilliant history of having a host of eminent teachers as its faculty, numerous alumni who have glorified the name of this Institute. The college is easily accessible by road and rail route and the nearest airport is located in Hubli-Dharwad. It provides quality medical, paramedical, nursing and allied healthcare education, excellent and compassionate hospital services with state of the art facilities as well as to carry out health research for the betterment of the humankind. It has been playing, and continues to play a major role in serving the society at large, not only in terms of providing tertiary health care services to the needy, but also by developing resources in terms of health care providers and researchers. The institute was the first medical college in India to start a full-fledged post-graduate course in pediatrics. The institute has also been accorded the status of Institute of Excellence and recognized as a Training Center for the WHO Fellowship.

Later, it was shifted to the present beautiful campus comprising of 100 acres of land, situated on Pune – Bangalore National Highway, Vidyanagar, Hubballi. It is considered to be one of the highly acclaimed Government Medical colleges for its best infrastructure. The college is situated in a beautiful landscape with modern academic facilities which includes spacious classrooms, Lecture halls, Examination Halls, Demonstration rooms, Departmental museums and Skill labs. Advanced and fully-equipped laboratories continually focuses on teaching, clinical practice, and research. Excellent hostel facilities with well furnished rooms, with separate boys and girls hostel(UG and PG) blocks are available on the campus. A central mess with good dining facilities is attached to the hostel. Sports and Recreational corner for UG and PG students which includes Indoor and outdoor stadiums. Well-structured Library spread in over 2613.94 s.mt with a huge collection of Books and Journals including Indian and Foreign Journals and back volumes. The library accommodates around 428 UG, PG and SS students at a time.

KIMS Hospital serves the society at large by providing tertiary health care services to the needy and medically unreached populations. hospital treating cancer patients to a well-known comprehensive regional center for cancer treatment and research. It is now capable of offering diagnostic and therapeutic services to cancer patients from Karnataka and neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra. The institute is equipped to provide some specialty services like Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic surgery and Pediatric surgery. The Anti-Retroviral Treatment Center at KIMS, Hubballi has been recognized and is being developed as the nodal center for North Karnataka as well as the surrounding region. The Government of Karnataka has provided a cardiac catheterization lab to the Institute and has pledged to renew it as a Regional Cardiology Center. The addition of new blocks, Trauma Care Center and Maternal & Child Health Center is expected to increase the popularity of the hospital in the region. Phototherapy, dermabrasion and radio frequency have been newly added to the Department of Dermatology.

The Hospital has an average daily OPD of 1500+ patients with a daily average IP admission of 145+ patients. Total number of average monthly major and minor Operation is around 3903+. The Hospital is fully equipped with all the Clinical and Diagnostic laboratories and the ICU's are of great standards. It has 24X7 Emergency and Trauma care, Blood bank facilities. Admission Process

Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, NEETPG Counseling is Conducted by 1) MCC (Medical Counselling Committee)( Open To All )and 2) KEA – Karnataka Examination Authority conducts counseling for Government Medical College (50% seats and another 50% will be conducted by MCC)

1) MCC(Medical Counselling Committee) COUNSELING PROCESS:-

The MCC/DGHS conducts Counseling for allotment of Post Graduate (MD/MS/Diploma and MDS) seats to the NEETPG/MDS eligible and qualified candidates in participating Government Medical/Dental Colleges of the country under 50% All India Quota and 100% Central & Deemed University quota every year. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG /MDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of MCC of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (PG) examination conducting body

Candidates who fall under the category of NRI as per the directions/ orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case (W.P. No. 689/2017- Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) & Anr. Vs. Union of India &Ors.) dated 22-08- 2017 are eligible for NRI Category seats. OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals will be eligible for only NRI seats .The eligible Indian National Candidates wanting to get converted to sponsored NRI category have to submit the documents as and when the same are called for by the MCC.

Step Wise Counseling Process conducted by MCC

There are multiple rounds of counselling i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 & Stray Vacancy Round. ALL four rounds of AIQ, Deemed University, Central University/Institutes, DNB, are conducted by MCC through ONLINE ONLY i.e., Round 1, Round 2 , Round 3, and Stray Vacancy round. In the YEAR 2022–23 (Round 3) was called the Mop-Up round, where there was no sliding (upgradation) from the 2nd round to the mop-up round, but in 2023–2024, there was an upgradation from ROUND 2 to Round 3. In 2023-2024 Stray Vacancy Round was ONLINE, but in 2022-23 Stray Vacancy Round is conducted physically by the Deemed Universities for which the list of registered & eligible Candidates is forwarded by MCC to the respective Deemed Universities. The allotment shall only be in terms of merit. As per the directions issued by Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in SLA(C) No. 10487 of 2021, the AIQ scheme has been modified and 04 rounds of AIQ counselling will be conducted by MCC of DGHS, MoHFW. Hence, 3rd round (earlier mop-up round) and fourth round i.e. stray vacancy round will be conducted in AIQ from 2021-22 onwards.

  3. The candidate is not satisfied with the present allotment and wishes to participate in the next round of counselling. The previously allotted seat is forfeited and offered to the next eligible candidate
  4. Not satisfied with MCC allotted seat and candidate has got seat elsewhere, so candidate is quitting and not to be considered for allotment of seats in any of the further rounds

  • In 2022, the institutional mop-up round of counseling will fill the vacant seats or remain unfilled seats after a mop-up round of KEA counseling. This round is conducted by colleges to fill the left-over seats. A list of the registered candidates' names for stray vacancies will be sent to private colleges to be exhausted strictly in order of merit.
