The Grant Medical College Mumbai is a foremost and pioneer medical institution of 175 years of existence. It was established in 1845 and it is one of the oldest institutions teaching medicine in South Asia. This oldest medical institution run by the Government of Maharashtra providing undergraduate and postgraduate medical training and health care ranging from specialties to super-specialties along with tertiary care to patients will provide enhanced standards of medical education and health care. The institute was ranked 7th among medical colleges in India in 2019 by Outlook India and 7th by The Week. In the year 2020, it was ranked 8th and 11th among the Top medical colleges in India by The Week and Outlook India, respectively. The Grant Government Medical College, Mumbai is a medical college affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and recognized by Govt. of India and the National Medical Commission (NMC). It has an annual intake of 250 seats in MBBS, 234 seats in 21 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 17 seats in 7 discipline of Super- Specialization studies.
Grant Medical College & Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals has situated the territory of south and central Mumbai. Mumbai is well connected by Western and Central railway, roadways, and airways and even by sea from all the parts of Maharashtra, India & the world. The College is spread in over a huge area of around 44 acres with 46 buildings in total. The campus is notable for its greenery and open spaces in an otherwise congested part of the city and has huge roads and round the clock busy hospitals. With gradual additions and expansions since its initial foundation, the campus has a mix of buildings depicting both modern Indian and Colonial architecture. As the campus expanded it incorporated hospitals that were originally independent before being absorbed into J.J. Hospital and thus retain some of their older names, notably: C.J. Ophthalmic Hospital, B.J. Hospital for children and the David Sasoon Hospital. The college the pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.
Classrooms are huge, and some of them are air-conditioned. There are big Lecture halls, Examination room, Demonstration room. There are Departmental museums and well-equipped Laboratories. The campus has a total of 45 wards, 5 hostels in which there are around 860 rooms for undergraduates students and 410 rooms for PG students and the college also provides 200 rooms for interns with air conditioning and internet facility. There are separate dining area for both boys and girls. There are around 7 canteens for staff and students. It also provides residential facilities to its teaching faculty, resident doctors, medical students, nurses and other hospital workers. There are 3 libraries which are well-stocked with an excellent collection of medical books and journals, back volumes, Atlases, Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopaedias, Technical Reports. There are separate Reading rooms and the E- library has good Internet facility. There are separate hostels for girls and boys. Mess facilities are not available. There are 4-5 canteens around the campus which provide very good food. Excellent facilities for Indoor and Outdoor Games and Sports activities including recreational games.

The Teaching Hospital
Its clinical affiliate is Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy (J.J) Group of Hospitals: a conglomerate of four hospitals in South Bombay including the Sir J. J. Hospital, St George Hospital, Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital, and Cama and Albless Hospital (women and children hospital). All these Hospitals are busy 24X7 serving people owing to its quality medical service and central location. The hospital has 2844 beds and caters to an annual load of 1,200,000 out-patients and 80,000 in-patients, from all parts of Maharashtra and central India.
St George Hospital is a multispeciality hospital near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), in the Fort district of Mumbai. This is a free Hospital run by the Government of Maharashtra with around 460 beds capacity. Mumbai's first dedicated Urology Unit was established in St George's Hospital in the early 1960s under the late Dr B J Colabawalla, who was also the founding Secretary of the Urological Society of India.
Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital is a government of Maharashtra run free hospital in South Mumbai, India. It was built in 1875 thanks to the beneficence of Gokuldas Tejpal, a renowned Hindu businessman and philanthropist of Mumbai. It has all the Pre-clinical, Para-clinical and Clinical departments.
The Cama & Albless Hospital (originally just Cama Hospital) is a hospital for women and children in the city of Mumbai, India, with 367 beds.

The MCC/DGHS conducts Counseling for allotment of Post Graduate (MD/MS/Diploma and MDS) seats to the NEETPG/MDS eligible and qualified candidates in participating Government Medical/Dental Colleges of the country under 50% All India Quota and 100% Central & Deemed University quota every year. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG /MDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of MCC of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (PG) examination conducting body
Candidates who fall under the category of NRI as per the directions/ orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case (W.P. No. 689/2017- Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) & Anr. Vs. Union of India &Ors.) dated 22-08- 2017 are eligible for NRI Category seats. OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals will be eligible for only NRI seats .The eligible Indian National Candidates wanting to get converted to sponsored NRI category have to submit the documents as and when the same are called for by the MCC.

Eligibility Condition:
There are multiple rounds of counselling i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 & Stray Vacancy Round. ALL four rounds of AIQ, Deemed University, Central University/Institutes, DNB, are conducted by MCC through ONLINE ONLY i.e., Round 1, Round 2 , Round 3, and Stray Vacancy round. In the YEAR 2022–23 (Round 3) was called the Mop-Up round, where there was no sliding (upgradation) from the 2nd round to the mop-up round, but in 2023–2024, there was an upgradation from ROUND 2 to Round 3. In 2023-2024 Stray Vacancy Round was ONLINE, but in 2022-23 Stray Vacancy Round is conducted physically by the Deemed Universities for which the list of registered & eligible Candidates is forwarded by MCC to the respective Deemed Universities. The allotment shall only be in terms of merit. As per the directions issued by Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in SLA(C) No. 10487 of 2021, the AIQ scheme has been modified and 04 rounds of AIQ counselling will be conducted by MCC of DGHS, MoHFW. Hence, 3rd round (earlier mop-up round) and fourth round i.e. stray vacancy round will be conducted in AIQ from 2021-22 onwards.

2) Procedure for Selection and Admission to Medical Postgraduate Courses (MD/MS/Diploma) at Maharashtra State Government /Corporation Medical Colleges and Unaided Private/Minority Medical Colleges
State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai conducts Online Combined Centralized Counselling for all Maharashtra State government and Unaided Private/Minority Medical Colleges. In order to participate in the admission process, it is necessary to fill State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai MBBS PG Admission Counseling medical application form in the online mode. Candidates who have qualified NEET- PG is eligible for the Maharashtra PG medical admission to the state quota as well as All India Quota seats. State CET Cell offers PG medical admission for the 50% seats available in the Maharashtra State Government /Corporation Medical Colleges and 100% Unaided Private/Minority Medical Colleges.
The seats available for admission to medical postgraduate courses will be distributed as 50% to all Indian Quota & the remaining 50 % to the State Quota. From the State quota, 50% of Seats in post-graduate diploma courses from State Government/Corporation Medical Colleges will be reserved for In-service candidates in the State Government services, who have served at least 3 years in remote and/or difficult areas.
In unaided Private medical Colleges and Minority Medical Colleges,50% of seats are stated CET cell quota seats, and the remaining 50% seats are institutional quota seats including NRI quota seats. All these seats shall be filled by State Competent Authority NEET-PG. In the Institutional quota, a maximum of 15% of the seats may be filled in, from the NRI candidates.

The cost of the online application form for NEET-PG 2023 is Rs. 3000/-. This application fee is not refundable; hence, candidates are advised to go through the information brochure and ascertain their eligibility before paying the fee. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ascertain online payment of fees within the prescribed period, failing which the online application will be rejected. Along with the application form fee of Rs. 3000/-, every candidate will have to pay a refundable security deposit as shown in the following table.

Candidate paying deposit as per column (1) will be allowed to fill preferences of Government / Corporation / Government Aided Institutes only. Candidate paying deposit as per column (2) will be allowed to fill preferences of all the institutions i.e. Government / Corporation / Government Aided Institutes and Unaided Private / Minority institutes. Candidate should decide well in advance regarding payment of deposit. No extension will be allowed for payment of deposit after the last date of registration. This deposit will be utilized at the end of round 3 and subsequent rounds as described below and as shown in Table 2.

If deposit of a candidate is forfeited at the end of Round 2, such a candidate if wishes to participate in Round 3 and further Round(s) , he/she will have to register again for Round 3 by paying Application form fee of Rs. 3000/-, and the necessary deposit as stated in Table 1.

The candidate should report personally (proxy not allowed) to the respective allotted Centre/College, for the physical Document Verification. |
There shall be four or more Online CAP rounds of selection of candidates depending on the availability of vacant seats during subsequent round(s). The selection will be on the basis of merit and the preferences submitted by the candidate. Candidate will fill fresh choices for Round-1, Round-2, Round-3 and Online Stray Vacancy Round separately. The choices filled for each round will be valid for that round only. Choices filled for respective round(s) will not be carried forward for any subsequent round(s) except the preferences filled for Online Stray Vacancy Round which may be carried forward for subsequent Online Stray Vacancy Round(s) if any.
