K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), established in 1999, is a constituent college of NITTE (Deemed to be University) in Deralakatte, a town about 13 km from Mangalore and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), New Delhi, and the Malaysian Medical Council. The college is ranked 36th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 by MHRD, GOI among all the medical colleges in India. NITTE Education Trust was founded in 1979 by Late Justice K S Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. KS Hegde Medical Academy offers 150 seats in MBBS, Postgraduate Courses in 19 departments, and a Super Specialty course in 1 department

The campus of KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) stands on 40 acres of land. Equipped with all modern facilities, the serene and peaceful campus provides an ideal learning atmosphere for the students. The college is ranked 36th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2020 by MHRD, GOI among the medical colleges in India. KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) is accredited ’A’ Grade by NAAC.

The college has a world-class infrastructure housed in tall buildings with an excellent Wi-Fi-enabled campus. The institute provides spacious classrooms, fully equipped ultra-modern labs. The sports facilities in the campus consist of an athletic turf track of 400 meters, Football ground, Cricket pitch, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton courts. The campus has facilities for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess, and Carrom.

The hostels are on the campus and close to the college and hospital. Every hostel has solar water heaters, WiFi facility, common telephone, TV room, reading room, visitors lounge, water coolers, generators, 24×7 security, and surveillance cameras The hostels also have facilities for indoor and outdoor games.

The institute encourages students to carry out research activities. It has collaborations and research connections with several renowned international and national organizations like the University of Toronto in Canada, the Wake Forest University in the USA, the BARC Research Centre of Mangalore University in India, and St. John’s Research Institute in India. Students belonging to both, undergraduate programs as well as post-graduate programs are encouraged to pursue and participate in research-related studies and activities.

Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital

Justice K S Hegde Charitable hospital is a 1000 bedded teaching hospital for the constituent institutions of NITTE (Deemed to be University) with 12 broad specialties and 15 super specialties. The hospital provides excellent training opportunities to the students of the institution. The hospital has a motto of providing quality treatment and healthcare at affordable cost. Outpatient Department at Justice K. S Hegde Charitable Hospital runs on all days of the week including Sundays 24/7. OPD timings are from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM and on Sundays from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM
Clinical board’s general specialties viz. Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Pulmonology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, and Radiology three paraclinical departments viz. Pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry are working in the Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital. In addition to the basic clinical specialties, NICU, PICU, OICU, Paediatric Nephrology including dialysis, Arthroscopy, and GI Endoscopy are some of the specialized tertiary level services rendered in the hospital.

Hospital is having a State-of-the-art flat panel Cath Lab with Fractional Flow and Reserve (FFR) facilities for Angiogram, Angioplasty, and Valvuloplasty catering to patients day and night under expert care. A sophisticated and self-contained 3 bedded ICU for treatment of Burn victims.16 all modern laminar flow OT’s with advanced engineering controls

25-bed Trauma and Emergency department with Minor OT attached and facilities for resuscitation and ventilation of severely ill patients manned by Medical Officers round the clock.

The hospital houses a dedicated center for the treatment of cancer and neurological disorders. With a footfall of over 3 lakh outpatients and 30000 inpatients every year, the hospital is catering to the people of DK and adjoining districts of Karnataka and Kerala.

COVID19 -Hospital takes pride as one of the first hospitals in the district to start telemedicine services, medicine delivery services during the COVID pandemic. It is also the first hospital to receive DCGI approval for starting Convalescent Plasma Therapy and the first hospital to start a Comprehensive Post-COVID Care Clinic in the coastal region.

MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) COUNSELING PROCESS:-

The MCC/DGHS conducts Counseling for allotment of Post Graduate (MD/MS/Diploma and MDS) seats to the NEETPG/MDS eligible and qualified candidates in participating Government Medical/Dental Colleges of the country under 50% All India Quota and 100% Central & Deemed University quota every year. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG /MDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of MCC of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (PG) examination conducting body

Candidates who fall under the category of NRI as per the directions/ orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case (W.P. No. 689/2017- Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) & Anr. Vs. Union of India &Ors.) dated 22-08- 2017 are eligible for NRI Category seats. OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals will be eligible for only NRI seats .The eligible Indian National Candidates wanting to get converted to sponsored NRI category have to submit the documents as and when the same are called for by the MCC.

Step Wise Counseling Process conducted by MCC

There are multiple rounds of counselling i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 & Stray Vacancy Round. ALL four rounds of AIQ, Deemed University, Central University/Institutes, DNB, are conducted by MCC through ONLINE ONLY i.e., Round 1, Round 2 , Round 3, and Stray Vacancy round. In the YEAR 2022–23 (Round 3) was called the Mop-Up round, where there was no sliding (upgradation) from the 2nd round to the mop-up round, but in 2023–2024, there was an upgradation from ROUND 2 to Round 3. In 2023-2024 Stray Vacancy Round was ONLINE, but in 2022-23 Stray Vacancy Round is conducted physically by the Deemed Universities for which the list of registered & eligible Candidates is forwarded by MCC to the respective Deemed Universities. The allotment shall only be in terms of merit. As per the directions issued by Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in SLA(C) No. 10487 of 2021, the AIQ scheme has been modified and 04 rounds of AIQ counselling will be conducted by MCC of DGHS, MoHFW. Hence, 3rd round (earlier mop-up round) and fourth round i.e. stray vacancy round will be conducted in AIQ from 2021-22 onwards.

  3. The candidate is not satisfied with the present allotment and wishes to participate in the next round of counselling. The previously allotted seat is forfeited and offered to the next eligible candidate
  4. Not satisfied with MCC allotted seat and candidate has got seat elsewhere, so candidate is quitting and not to be considered for allotment of seats in any of the further rounds

KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) COUNSELING

As per consensual agreement between the Karnataka government and Manipal Academy Of Higher Education (MAHE) . Manipal Academy Of Higher Education (MAHE) Karnataka shares 2% of there seat in UG and PG For the local students of Karnataka. The Tuition fees will be same as MCC counseling.

KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) COUNSELING PROCESS

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), Bengaluru is the designated agency of Government of Karnataka conducting Online / Offline Counseling for allotment of seats for admission to Post Graduate Degree / Diploma Courses in Medical / Dental subjects in Government Medical and Dental colleges, Government Quota seats in Private ,Deemed and Minority Medical and Dental Colleges and Private seats in Private Medical and Dental colleges (KPCF, KRLMPCA, AMPCK & Private Universities) located in the State of Karnataka for the academic year.

The allotment of seats will be conducted in multiple number of iterations.
