The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, is a Government College established in the Year 2008. It is an Autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India in 1987 and declared as "Centre of excellence" by the parliament of India. The College is affiliated with North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, located in Meghalaya and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC). The Medical College has an annual intake of 50 MBBS seats, 33 seats in 14 Departments of Post-Graduate studies, and 2 seats among the 1 Super-Speciality studies. The institute is established on the lines of AIIMS, Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh, to provide tertiary care to the people of North-East India.
The campus at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong is spread over a lush green area measuring about 273 acres in a hilly terrain, on the outskirts of Shillong. There are very good spacious modern galley type Lecture halls, Examination halls & Demonstration rooms. The Institute is fully equipped with clinical Laboratories, Departmental Museums and Auditorium. The Central Library is a three Storied Building with a seating capacity of 250+ Readers with a separate reading area for the Faculty. There are huge collection of Medical Books, Indian & Foreign Journals back volumes and a Digital Library. Separate hostels for both boys and girls, Nurses hostel, Quarters for professors and teachers along with a Guest House with 12 rooms. An indoor stadium for daily recreation and sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton is available in addition to a tennis court and a swimming pool are also available within the campus.

North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) (MEDICAL SCIENCES)-NEETPG Counseling is Conducted by 1) MCC (Medical Counselling Committee)( Open To All )and 2)Department of Health and Family Welfare (State Domicile)
The MCC (Medical Counselling Committee)/DGHS conducts Counseling for allotment of Post Graduate (MD/MS/Diploma and MDS) seats to the NEETPG/MDS eligible and qualified candidates in participating Government Medical/Dental Colleges of the country under 50% All India Quota and 100% Central & Deemed University quota every year. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG /MDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (PG) examination conducting body
There will be four rounds of AIQ counseling i.e. Round 1, Round 2, AIQ Mop-up Rounds and AIQ Stray Vacancy Round (SLA(C) No. 10487 of 2021 before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India). All candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) will be eligible for participation in the counselling process.
