Sawai Man Singh Medical College, also known as SMS Medical College, is a government medical college in Jaipur. It was established in 1947 and was the 15th centre for medical education in India. The foundation stone was laid down by Lord Wavell, the Governor-General and Viceroy of India, on 13 March 1946 and Sawai Man Singh Medical College was officially opened in 1947. Initially, the college started work in the south wing of SMS Hospital and in the building of the Jaipur Medical Association. In 1952, the college was recognized by the Medical Council of India and the foundation of a new OPD block was laid in the succeeding year. 1952 also marked the beginning of P.G Courses and the first batch of M.D. and M.S. students qualified in 1955. The College is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, located in Rajasthan and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC) with an annual intake of 250 MBBS seats, 432 seats in 24 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 89 seats in 11 Super-Specialization studies which are amongst one of the highest number of seats recognized by any Government Medical college in India. SMS medical college is ranked 27th best medical college in India in the latest Govt of India official NIRF 2020 rankings.

The Campus is located in a sprawling campus of over 28 acres with very good infrastructure. There are huge classrooms, 7 Lecture halls with 5 having a seating capacity of 300, 1 having 180 and 1 having more than 700. There are 22 Demo rooms, Common rooms, Examination halls. . Departmental museums and Skill labs. An Auditorium which accommodates more than 700. Advanced and fully-equipped laboratories continually focuses on teaching, clinical practice, and research. Excellent hostel facilities with well furnished rooms, with separate boys and girls hostel(UG, PG, SS and Interns) blocks are available on the campus. A central mess with good dining facilities is attached to the hostel. Sports and Recreational corner for UG and PG students which includes Indoor and outdoor stadiums and Gymnasium. Facilities to play Basketball, Football, Cricket, Hockey, Tennis, Volleyball Badminton and other games. Well-structured Library spread in over an area of 4000sqmt with a huge collection of Books of over 63,000+ and around 120 Journals  including Indian and Foreign Journals and 18,200+ back volumes. There are Computer lab and separate reading rooms and E-Library facility. The Medical college has Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical, Clinical and Super-Specialization departments.

  • Sawai Man Singh Hospital - This hospital has 6000 beds in 43 wards and is one of the few government super speciality hospitals. The hospital has all the specialities in place with very good patient care facilities. The Hospital's general specialities include General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Pain and Palliative care, Sports Injury, Physiotherapy. The Super Specialities include Urology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Maxillo-facial surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Endocrinology, Vascular Surgery, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine, Regional STD Teaching, Training and Research centre and Cardiology.
  • Mahila Chikitsalaya - Is a tertiary care hospital & one of the busiest hospital of Jaipur. It is an attached teaching hospital (Obstetrics &Gynaecology Department) of SMS Medical College, Jaipur to provide Obstetrics care and Gynaecological services to the patients. consultation & comprehensive treatment an average of 294 ANC patients and 197 Gynae patients are benefitted daily in the OPD. There are total no. of 90 to 108 IPD admissions /day.  The Hospital has a milk bank. There are approximately 20 to 25 LSCS /day and 25 to 33 vaginal deliveries/day. There is an additional newly built modern 100 bedded mother & neonatal wing.
  • Institute of Respiratory Diseases, Shastri Nagar. - Specialized in treating respiratory ailments such as Tuberculosis, Lung cancer, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease etc. This 306 bedded institute has respiratory medicine and thoracic medicine departments of Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur. This institute is one of the renowned institutes in North India for chest and respiratory diseases. Patients not only from Jaipur but also from 34 districts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi etc. come here for consulting the highly qualified team of Doctors.
  • Psychiatric Center - At present the hospital has total bed strength of 312 including, 32 in emergency ward and 20 in de-addiction ward at SMS Hospital. It is running various specialty psychiatric services like de-addiction psychiatry, child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, rehabilitation psychiatry etc.
  • Gangori Hospital - Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, Gangori is a 300-bedded hospital formed by Rajasthan Medicare Relief Society. It is fully functional hospital with specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Radio-Diagnosis and a Blood Bank. There are ten modern operation theatres and eighteen-bedded labor room and the hospital registers over 7,000 surgeries and 7,000 births annually. Also, the neonatal ICU is under expansion, going from 14 to 35 beds. PDDU hospital is being the first of its kind in the State to successfully operate the generic drug store and is now smoothly implemented across the state under the name of Mukhyamantri Nishulk Dava Yojna (MNDY).
  • JK Lone (SPMCHI - Sir Padampad Mother and Child Health Center) - It is Paediatric Speciality centre and the Department has 8 units in SPMCHI, 2 neonatal units in Zenana Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalya and 1 pediatric unit in Gangori Hospital and has 348 indoor beds.
  • Zanana Hospital - Specialised in Gynaecology and the present bed strength is 534 including Neonates ICU beds (4 Gynae ICU & 4 Neonatal ICU).
  • Isolation Hospital (for infectious diseases) - This is one of the few active Infectious Disease Hospitals in India. It has been established to provide in Patient care and isolation for patients suspected / having infectious diseases. Situated on JLN Marg, a two storey building with a beautiful garden in front and parking facility, this hospital is well equipped( infrastructure and manpower) and prepared to provide care to patient care to patient during epidemics/outbreak like Swine-flu, Ebola, Corona etc.

All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG /MDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (MDS) examination conducting body 

There will be four rounds of Counseling i.e., Round 1 & Round 2, third Round & Stray Vacancy Round and all the rounds will be conducted by MCC. All candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET MDS conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) will be eligible for participation in the counselling process. Eligible candidates may download the Rank letter/ Result from NBE website

Eligibility Condition:

  • The candidate should have qualified under NEET-MDS eligibility.
  • Domicile-free Counseling (Open to all)
  • Internal quota seat for AMU/BHU & Delhi University Quota
  • For this academic year2024, the internship completion date may be treated as 30th June 2024 as approved by the competent authority, MoHFW

For Delhi University Quota (MAIDS): The candidate must have passed the final M.B.B.S. examination (for MD/MS/Diploma Course) and BDS examination (for MDS Course) from the University of Delhi and must have completed a satisfactory one-year compulsory rotating internship and must submit their internship completion certificate at the time of admission. For the Reservation Policy of 50% Internals seats of AMU, there is no reservation

AMU Internal seats (ZADC, Aligarh) : An Institutional (Internal) candidate has passed the qualifying examination (MBBS/BDS as applicable) from AMU and completes his/her internship as per the dates specified by AMU authorities.

BHU Internal seat (IDS, BHU): Only those Candidates who have passed MBBS/BDS from the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU as per the internship dates specified by IMS, BHU will be eligible, provided the Candidates have appeared and qualified in the NEET-PG / MDS Examination.

Central Institutes: The Candidates should have completed their MBBS/BDS from I.P. University (VMMC & SJH; ABVIMS & RML; Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College & Hospital, New Delhi; Army College of Medical Sciences, Delhi; North Delhi Municipal Corporation(Medical College) Hindu Rao Hospital) are eligible for Internal seats of 50% in Central Institutes (VMMC & SJH, ABVIMS & RML, ESIC-Basaidarapur)

 The counseling process for admission into various programs will encompass four distinct rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and the Stray and Special Stray Vacancy Round. In accordance with the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India's directives, as per the orders dated 12.12.2022 and 16.12.2021 in the case of "SLA (C) No. 10487 of 2021 in the matter of Nihila P.P. v/s MCC & Ors.," all four rounds will be conducted online by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC). This approach ensures a transparent and accessible counseling process for all candidates.

Following the Supreme Court's approval, no seats will revert to the participating states after Round 2, marking a significant change in the counseling process. The Mop-up Round will now be recognized as Round 3 from the 2023-24 session onwards. The candidate is now allowed to upgrade seat from second round to 3 rd (mop up) round.It is crucial for candidates to make informed decisions regarding their participation in Round 3 of MCC counseling, as withdrawal from this round will not be permitted. Additionally, candidates accepting a seat in Round 3 will be ineligible for any further counseling rounds.

To facilitate a seamless transition between rounds and ensure optimal seat allocation, data will be shared between the Centre and the States. Any candidate listed in the allotments will be excluded from the All India Stray Vacancy Round to maintain the integrity of the counseling process.

For seats designated as JAIN MINORITY/MUSLIM MINORITY/NRI, any vacancies remaining after Round 3 will convert to UR MANAGEMENT Private Deemed University seats. This conversion only occurs after all eligible candidates for JAIN MINORITY/MUSLIM MINORITY/ NRI seats have been considered, ensuring no seat goes unfilled and maximizing educational opportunities for all students.

Guidelines for NRI Seat Allocation during MCC Counseling

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has established specific criteria for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) seat allocation as per the directives issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. According to the verdict in W.P. No. 689/2017 - Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) & Anr. vs. Union of India & Ors. on August 22, 2017, candidates qualifying as NRIs are eligible for NRI category seats. This eligibility extends to Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Foreign Nationals, who may only apply for NRI-designated seats.

Indian Nationals seeking to be reclassified to the sponsored NRI category must adhere to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC)'s requirements, including the timely submission of necessary documents upon request. Candidates are encouraged to stay informed on the process through official Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) communications to ensure compliance and secure their eligibility for NRI seat consideration during the counseling sessions.

During the completion of admission formalities, if the candidate wishes to upgrade then he/she has to give willingness for upgradation in the college

If a candidate freshly registered in round 2 is not allotted a seat, he/she can participate in round 3 directly without fresh registration
If upgraded in Round 2, the candidate must take relieving from the Round 1 seat and join the Round 2 seat
Candidates getting upgraded in Round 2 Shall NOT have any claim on the Round 1 seat

Following Candidates allotted seats in round 2, are eligible to exit with forfeiture of Security deposit

  1. Candidate who are fresh allotted seat but want to leave seat and participate in further rounds
  2. Candidates upgraded but not joining from round one (1) before round 3 registration.
  3. Candidates who joined the college/institute and then resigned.
Candidates who have been fresh allotted a seat in round 2 can opt for willingness to upgrade from round2 to round 3, for which first they will have to physically report at the Round 2 allotted college/institute

If any candidate does not join Round 3 seat, he may exit with forfeiture of security deposit and elimination (cannot participate in further rounds of counseling conducted by MCC, DGHS)
If a candidate freshly registers in round 3 and is not allotted any seat, he/she is eligible to participate in stray/further rounds.
Candidates getting upgraded in Round 3 shall Not have any claim on earlier round allotted seat
Note: MCC of DGHS will share the data of joined candidates in round 1 , round 2, round 3 of counselling with all the participating States. Stray vacancy: (MD/MS/DNB/MDS) (No Free Exit Round) (AIQ, Deemed University, Central University/Institutes/DU/DNB)

Fresh registrations and fresh choice filling for Final Stray Vacancy Round. The choices filled during third round will not be considered for allotment in Stray VacancyRound.
Eligibility of Candidates: who are not holding any seat or did not participate in Round- 1 and round 2. (AIQ, State, Deemed) can participate in the Stray Vacancy Round. 
Candidates who were fresh allotted seats in round 3 and did not join cannot participate in Stray Vacancy Round.
Data will be shared between Centre and States after Round 3 of states and if any candidate has his/her name in the list provide by State after round 3, then such candidates shall be eliminated from counseling before processing for All-India Stray VacancyRound
For Deemed Universities the Stray Vacancy Round will be conducted by MCC of DGHS, MoHFWas per the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide order dated 12.12.2022 passed in I.A NO. 132614/2022 IN W.P (c) NO. 267/2017 in Dar-us Slam Educational trust and Ors. vs.Medical Council of India & Ors.”
If a candidate is allotted a seat in Stray round, he/she has to report & join the allotted seat/college else he/she shall be debarred from NEET PG /MDS examination for subsequent 1 (one) year along withforfeiture of security deposit.

NOTE:- The Special Stray Vacancy Round is conducted exclusively to fill any seats that remain vacant even after the Stray Vacancy Round. This round is a final attempt to ensure that no seat goes unfilled, providing one last opportunity for candidates to secure a position in their desired college or course.

NOTE: -Candidates without original certificates/ documents shall not be allowed to take admission in allotted Medical / Dental College. Candidates who have deposited their original documents with any other Institute / College/ University and come for admission with a certificate stating that “their original certificates are deposited with the Institute / College / University” shall not be allowed to take admission in allotted Medical/Dental College

The Chairman, NEET PG Admission/Counseling Board - 2023, Govt. Dental College, Jaipur would conduct the centralized common counseling for admission to PG Medical (M.D./ M.S.), Post MBBS DNB, and Post MBBS Diploma Courses, in State of Rajasthan. 

Application Fee :- All candidates are required to deposit non-refundable application fee of Rs. 3000/- (Rs. 1500/- for SC, ST category candidate of Rajasthan state domicile) + applicable transaction charges. 

State Eligibility :-

For 50% of the total seats in Government colleges as well as 50% of the total seats in Private Colleges, the NEET qualified candidates who possess the degree of MBBS from the colleges situated in the State of Rajasthan and all medical officers/medical teachers serving under Government of Rajasthan are eligible to participate, but on 25% seats out of these seats in Govt. colleges, preference shall be given to the candidates who possess the degree of MBBS awarded by the University of Rajasthan / Rajasthan University of Health Sciences; and 

for the remaining 50% of the total seats of Private Colleges, all NEET Qualified candidates who possess the degree of MBBS from anywhere (Recognized by NMC) are eligible to participate; 

Provided that in case during/after second round of counseling, adequate number of candidates having eligibility as mentioned in clause (i) are not available for admission, then all NEET Qualified candidates who possess the degree of MBBS from anywhere (Recognized by NMC) will be considered as per merit on the seats remaining vacant after exhaustion of the list of candidates having eligibility as per clause (i). 

Post MBBS Diploma and Post MBBS DNB seats 50% seats will be filled by State Counseling Board. All these seats are reserved for inservice candidates serving under Government of Rajasthan.

Reservation:-

All admissions to MD/MS courses shall be given as per reservation roster. Whatever the seats in whichever Medical colleges are available as per merit will be allotted to the candidates as per Reservation Roster and as per their choice. At roster point of UR all candidates will be considered as per their merit but at roster point of SC, ST, STA, OBCNCL, MBC-NCL, EWS, the concerned category candidates will be considered as per their merit. 

Reservation for SCs is 16%, 12% for STs and 21% for OBCs.,5% reservation for most backward classes (MBCs) and 10% for economically weaker sections (EWS)

Not less than 25% seats out of each category of SC, ST, STA, OBC-NCL, MBC-NCL, EWS and unreserved category shall be filled from female candidates.
The norms of reservation of the State Government of Rajasthan will be applicable only for bonafide candidates of the State of Rajasthan. SC / ST / OBC NCL / MBC NCL/EWS candidates of state other than Rajasthan state shall be considered as unreserved category candidates. All candidates of reserved category shall submit valid caste / EWS certificate as per State Government rules.

PwD reservation 5% seats shall be reserved horizontally for candidates with specified disabilities (PwD) under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and in accordance with the provisions of the “Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000”. It is clarified that PwD candidates shall only be considered on the roster point reserved for PwD as per his/her PwD merit. 

The “Certificate of Disability” issued in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017 and as per norms of Regulating Authority. The disability certificate issued by 17 centers approved by MCC shall only be considered. List of approved centers and proforma of certificate of disability are attached as Schedule - 1.
