About College

Established in 1985, the A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) is recognized by the Dental Council of India for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Ranked No 6 college in the dental category of NIRF- 2022 and NIRF- 2021. It is a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed-to-be University). The institution has been accredited with 'A' grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). The campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

It has been recognized by the Malaysian Dental Council and is an affiliate of Okayama University Dental School, Japan and academic mentor to Oman Dental College, Sultanate of Oman. In association with the Smile Train Organization, USA and Cleft Children International, Switzerland, the college has the unique distinction of being at the forefront of treatment and research in cleft and craniofacial anomalies, in the country. The college also has MoUs with Goethe University, Germany, and the Universite de Paul Sabatier, France for faculty and student exchanges.

The Institution has made a foray into the Limca Book Records 2020-22 for ‘The Maximum Number of Complete Dentures Fabricated and Delivered in a Single Day'. 149 completely edentulous needy patients were given complete dentures in a single day free of cost

With a 425-chair dental teaching hospital with comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic & rehabilitation services, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences offers the students all the required infrastructure for undergraduate and postgraduate training in dentistry. The Institution has incorporated high-end equipment such as CBCT Radiographic Imaging System, CAD CAM Systems Lingual Angulation & Positioning Device Endo-Surgical Microscope, Intra Oral Scanner, Aligners System & 3D Printer High end Camera and Lighting for 2-way AV System, Digitalized Case Management System, Digitalized Case Record System 3D Diagnostic Software ensuring that students remain at the forefront of their chosen field.

Rural health centres

In addition to clinical training at the A B Shetty Dental College Hospital teaching hospital, the Nitte University places a strong emphasis on community-based training and creates opportunities for students through innovative programs for interaction with local communities at its 21 rural health centres and two rural tertiary care hospitals. These centres provide ample clinical material and diverse training opportunities ranging from hospital-based practice to community embedded care.

Library

  • A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) Central Library and Information Centre of the institution has been functioning since the inception of the college in the year 1985. At present it is housed in the 7th floor of the college building. Being in the top floor of the building, it has highly ventilated with natural breeze and sunlight.
  • Library has all the basic amenities like drinking water, coffee wending machine, scanning & printing, photocopying facility, display boards, uninterrupted power supply, Internet and A/C for P.G. Section

Hostels

  • The hostels are on campus and in close proximity to the college and hospital.
  • The hostellers are provided with a cot, cupboard, study table and chair. Every hostel has solar water heaters, WiFi facility, common telephone, TV room, reading room, visitors lounge, water coolers, generators, 24x7 security and surveillance cameras. AC rooms are available in some of the hostels. The hostels also have facilities for indoor and outdoor games.
  • The mess advance collected will be adjusted against the monthly mess charges and any shortfall will have to be made good by the students. The vegetarian mess is run on a cost sharing basis. Based on the suggestions of the boarders, the mess committee will decide upon the menu. catering is not permitted. Hostellers can pre-book their favorite non-vegetarian dishes apart from their regular vegetarian menu through the “Paaka-shale” app.

    A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) MDS (Master Degrees in Dental Sciences ) Counseling is conducted by MCC (Medical Counselling Committee)

    MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) COUNSELING PROCESS:-

    The MCC/DGHS conducts Counseling for allotment of Post Graduate (MD/MS/Diploma and MDS) seats to the NEETPG/MDS eligible and qualified candidates in participating Government Medical/Dental Colleges of the country under 50% All India Quota and 100% Central & Deemed University quota every year. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG /MDS conducted by NBE including candidates from Union Territory of J&K will be eligible. The role of MCC of DGHS is limited to allotment of seats to the participating candidates, as per their merit and choice, which starts only after receiving the list/data/Information of successful candidates from National Board of Examinations (NBE) i.e. the NEET (MDS) examination conducting body 

    Candidates who fall under the category of NRI as per the directions/ orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case (W.P. No. 689/2017- Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) & Anr. Vs. Union of India &Ors.) dated 22-08- 2017 are eligible for NRI Category seats. OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals will be eligible for only NRI seats .The eligible Indian National Candidates wanting to get converted to sponsored NRI category have to submit the  documents as and when the same are called for by the MCC.

    Step Wise Counseling Process conducted by MCC

                   There are four rounds of counselling i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Mop- Up Round & Stray Vacancy Round. Out of the four rounds for Deemed Universities, 03 rounds are conducted online by MCC i.e. Round 1, Round 2 and Mop-Up Round. The Stray Vacancy round is conducted physically by the Deemed Universities for which the list of registered & eligible Candidates is forwarded by MCC to the respective Deemed Universities. The allotment shall only be in terms of merit

    2. The candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat but wishes to participate in the next round. Such candidates should pay the prescribed fees
    3. The candidate is not satisfied with the present allotment and wishes to participate in the next round of counselling. The previously allotted seat is forfeited and offered to the next eligible candidate
    4. Not satisfied with MCC allotted seat and candidate has got seat elsewhere, so candidate is quitting and not to be considered for allotment of seats in any of the further rounds

    2nd Round :- (AIQ, Deemed University, Central University/Institutes, DNB)

    Fresh Registration for Mop-up Round (not required for earlier resigned candidates)

    • Notification for counseling process
    • NRI application with appropriate documents to be mailed for opening NRI portal ([email protected])
    • Registration fee varies as per the Filling of application form for-AIQ, Deemed, CU, DU, Central Institutes, AFMS

    • If Allotted (No Free Exit)(Exit With Forfeiture of Fees )(No Upgradation For Next Round)

    • There will be no choice filling in Stray Vacancy Round. The choices filled during Mop-Up round will be considered for allotment in Stray Vacancy Round.
    • Allotment of seats ‘Online’ by running software
    • Eligible candidates who are not holding any seat can participate in Stray Vacancy Round

    Stray vacancies:- (DEEMED)

    • Final Stray Vacancy Round to be conducted by Deemed/ Central Universities (There will be no Fresh Registration of Candidates in Final Stray Vacancy Round)
    • List of ten times (of the registered candidates) of number of Stray vacancies to be sent to Deemed / Central Universities to be exhausted strictly in order of merit.
    • For Deemed Universities the Stray Vacancy Round will be conducted by the respective Deemed University
    • Eligible candidates who are not holding any seat can participate in Stray Vacancy Round
