The Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, is a one of the premier Medical College established in the year 1960. The Medical college was started in the year 1925 with the ancient systems of indigenous medicine the school of Indian medicine was started. The degree conferred at this institution was L.I.M. Later the College went into many transformations, in which an important one was the College of Integrated Medicine in 1953. Later in the year 1960, The Integrated Medicine Course (MBBS DEGREE) was started. 1965 The College was recognised as Women Medical College and named as Government Kilpauk Medical College, admitting only women candidates for MBBS degree. Later after couple of years Co-education was started and since then, the college has grown into glory with super-specilaities.
The Medical college is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC). It has an annual intake of 150 seats in MBBS, 134 seats in 22 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 38 seats in 8 disciplines of super- Specialization studies.
The College is spread in over an area of more than 8 acres which is located in the serene surroundings of the city. It has very good infrastructure with spacious classrooms, One common Lecturer hall of Gallery type with seating capacity for 300 students is available in the campus. In addition, a Lecturer hall with a capacity of 100 students is available for each department and 12 Lecture halls to accommodate around 100+ to 150+, Examination rooms, Demonstration rooms, Seminar halls. There are Departmental museums and well-equipped Laboratories. There is a huge Auditorium with a seating capacity of 750+ located inside the campus. There are separate hostel facilities for Boys and Girls and Indoor and Outdoor Games and Sports facilities and Canteen facilities. The college has a separate library building which is open 24X7 with an excellent collection of medical books of over 17,104+ and over 30 + journals, 6870+ bound volumes, Atlases, Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopaedias, Technical Reports. There are separate Reading rooms and the E- library has good Internet facility. The college has pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.

The Attached Hospitals
There are four hospitals attached to GKMC - Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. They are Government Royapettah Hospital, Government Thiruvotteeswarar Hospital of Thoracic Medicine, Government Peripheral Hospital, K.K.Nagar and Government Peripheral Hospital, Anna Nagar. The hospital is the third in the government sector, after the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and the Government Royapettah Hospital, to have a full-fledged emergency department, which includes triage area, resuscitation bay and colour-coded zones, per the Tamil Nadu Accident and Emergency Care Initiative (TAEI) guidelines. The hospital is recognised as a level II trauma care centre. The zero-delay ward of the hospital receives an average of 40 to 50 cases every day.

There are four rounds of counseling i.e., Round -1 Round -2, Mop- up and Stray vacancy round.(Stray Vacancy round will be conducted by the respective Self Financing Colleges from the merit list being furnished by the selection committee)
First Round of counselling (a)(i) Admission to PG Degree / Diploma courses, shall be made through online counselling. The detailed online counselling procedures are available in annexure. (ii) A Candidate who has not registered and not choice locked in the 1st round of ONLINE COUNSELLING will be permitted to attend the subsequent rounds of ONLINE COUNSELING. (iii) A candidate who has taken a seat and Joined/not joined /discontinued the course within the stipulated time in the first round of counselling, he/she is eligible to attend the Secound round of ONLINE COUNSELLING. (b) Re-allotment is permitted during the subsequent rounds of online counselling, based on Rank. (c) Mutual transfer/ Individual request for transfer of college will not be permitted under any circumstances. |
The tuition fee is not refundable if the candidate does not join after collecting the provisional allotment order in second round of online counselling. |
The candidates (Management Quota/NRI) who discontinue the course on or after the second round of counselling should pay the Discontinuation Fees as specified below, to the Deans of the respective Colleges, the sum as specified below in total by means of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai – 10”, payable at Chennai For P.G. Diploma Course ₹10 lakh /Degree Course ₹15 Lakh Unless the aforesaid discontinuation fee as penalty amount is paid in total, the candidates will not be relieved and original certificates produced by the candidates at the time of admission will be retained by the concerned institutions. |
Second Round of Counselling (i) Second round of counseling will be conducted for the vacancies arising after first round as per the rank list through online. (ii) If the candidates discontinue /Not joined the course after completion of round 2 of ONLINE CONSELLING, they will have to forfeit the processing fee, security Deposit & tuition fee paid by them (iii)Virtual Vacancies- Any Candidate who has been allotted a seat in Round 1 and has opted for up-gradation in Round 2, that allotted seats of Round 1 will be shown as virtual vacancy in Round 2 and Candidates can fill the said seat during the choice filling in Round 2. However, such seats will be allotted in Round 2 if the allottee of Round 1 vacates / upgrades in Round 2. When that virtual vacancy becomes real vacancy, it is open to all in the order of merit. |
