The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) is India’s first rural medical college, nestled in the karmabhoomi of Mahatma Gandhi, in Sevagram a small village located 8kms away from the city of Wardha. It is managed by the Kasturba Health Society and was established in the year 1969. The college was earlier affiliated to the Nagpur University (1969–1997) and from year 1998 it is now affiliated to to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC), India. The Medical College has an annual intake of 100 seats in MBBS and 72 seats in 20 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies. It is well connected with other parts of the country by rail and road links. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport at Nagpur is about 70 km away from the institute. It is NAAC accredited ‘A’ Grade college and is the recipient of awards and recognitions. Just to name one ,The Department of Community Medicine received the Award under Best Practices and Innovations in Community Medicine India for “Kiran Clinics: An Innovative Practice” at the 46th Annual National Conference of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine organized from 7-10 Mar 2019 at IGMC, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. The college has produced notable alumni who are spread across the World. The college is ranked among the Top 20 Medical college in India.
The college is spread in a sprawling area of over 450acres with an excellent and breath-taking infrastructure. MGIMS is a place where students learn about selfless service first and follow strict Gandhian principles and believe in simple living and high thinking. Every student dons uniforms made out of Khadi or the hand spun fabric when they are on campus. There are spacious traditional as well as technology infused gallery type Lecture halls, Examination halls, Practical Labs, A huge Auditorium, The institute is fully equipped with Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratories with advanced equipment, Departmental Museums. The College has a very good Library with huge collection of Books of over 20,000 and Journals which can be accessed by the staff, and medical students. There is a wide collection of medical literature, including Books, Journals, Reference Sources and pamphlets. The amount of newly published information available to the medical student, the practicing doctor, other personnel, demands a flexible library system and trained library staff. In addition, Separate Hostel facilities are available for Boys and Girls, Gymnasium and recreational facilities in the form of Indoor and outdoor games and sports are also in place.
The Attached Hospital
Kasturba Hospital at Sevagram has now grown into a nearly 1000- bed teaching hospital. Like all public and teaching hospitals, our hospital is also fairly busy. Take for instance, the health-related events that the hospital generates on a typical Monday. Over a 24-hour period, close to 1700 patients access the outpatient care in the hospital, hospital pharmacies deal with 1800 prescriptions, 140 patients seek admission to the hospital wards, 14 patients undergo major surgeries, 12 babies are delivered, and 20 units of blood are transfused. In addition, 270 patients undergo radiography, 65 ultrasound examinations, 14 computed tomography, and seven patients have a magnetic resonance imaging scan. The laboratories report 750 biochemical tests, 510 complete blood counts, 100 serologic tests, 20 cytology samples and 15 biopsy specimens. A team of a little over 100 consultants, 120 residents, 60 interns, and 250 nurses - all staying on campus- continues its tradition of excellence today. Supported by laboratories known for their quality, and staffed by doctors known for quality of care, patient safety and reputation in central India, the hospital is committed for providing affordable and appropriate care to the population it serves. Kasturba hospital also works closely with health care institutions to offer expert treatment and leading-edge clinical trials to patients in their communities. We have partnered with St John Medical College, Bangalore; Indian Council of Medical Research.
The hospital offers high-quality low-cost sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care in every specialty of medicine and surgery. The hospital has a PICU, NICU, MICU, a cath lab, facilities for joint replacement, LASIK, facilities for neurosurgery, and a radiation oncology unit. All biochemical, most haematologic and microbiologic test results are returned within two hours; the radiologic images can be accessed at the point of care. State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai conducts Online Combined Centralized Counselling for all Maharashtra State government and Unaided Private/Minority Medical Colleges. In order to participate in the admission process, it is necessary to fill State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai MBBS PG Admission Counseling medical application form in the online mode. Candidates who have qualified NEET- PG is eligible for the Maharashtra PG medical admission to the state quota as well as All India Quota seats. State CET Cell offers PG medical admission for the 50% seats available in the Maharashtra State Government /Corporation Medical Colleges and 100% Unaided Private/Minority Medical Colleges.
The seats available for admission to medical postgraduate courses will be distributed as 50% to all Indian Quota & the remaining 50 % to the State Quota. From the State quota, 50% of Seats in post-graduate diploma courses from State Government/Corporation Medical Colleges will be reserved for In-service candidates in the State Government services, who have served at least 3 years in remote and/or difficult areas.
In unaided Private medical Colleges and Minority Medical Colleges,50% of seats are stated CET cell quota seats, and the remaining 50% seats are institutional quota seats including NRI quota seats. All these seats shall be filled by State Competent Authority NEET-PG. In the Institutional quota, a maximum of 15% of the seats may be filled in, from the NRI candidates.

The cost of the online application form for NEET-PG 2023 is Rs. 3000/-. This application fee is not refundable; hence, candidates are advised to go through the information brochure and ascertain their eligibility before paying the fee. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ascertain online payment of fees within the prescribed period, failing which the online application will be rejected. Along with the application form fee of Rs. 3000/-, every candidate will have to pay a refundable security deposit as shown in the following table.

Candidate paying deposit as per column (1) will be allowed to fill preferences of Government / Corporation / Government Aided Institutes only. Candidate paying deposit as per column (2) will be allowed to fill preferences of all the institutions i.e. Government / Corporation / Government Aided Institutes and Unaided Private / Minority institutes. Candidate should decide well in advance regarding payment of deposit. No extension will be allowed for payment of deposit after the last date of registration. This deposit will be utilized at the end of round 3 and subsequent rounds as described below and as shown in Table 2.

If deposit of a candidate is forfeited at the end of Round 2, such a candidate if wishes to participate in Round 3 and further Round(s) , he/she will have to register again for Round 3 by paying Application form fee of Rs. 3000/-, and the necessary deposit as stated in Table 1.

There shall be four or more Online CAP rounds of selection of candidates depending on the availability of vacant seats during subsequent round(s). The selection will be on the basis of merit and the preferences submitted by the candidate. Candidate will fill fresh choices for Round-1, Round-2, Round-3 and Online Stray Vacancy Round separately. The choices filled for each round will be valid for that round only. Choices filled for respective round(s) will not be carried forward for any subsequent round(s) except the preferences filled for Online Stray Vacancy Round which may be carried forward for subsequent Online Stray Vacancy Round(s) if any.
